Nature observation outings
The company ConvientoNorte, located in Cordovilla de Aguilar, offers several outings in the north of the province. Depending on the season, these observation outings can have several themes.
Above all, be aware that we always make our observation outings with authorized 4×4 vehicles and with specialized guides.
We go out with optics for observation of fauna and flora, telescopes and binoculars at no additional cost.
1- Alpine Flora and Fauna (from March 1 to August 31). These outings are made inside the Palentina Mountain Natural Park and they are the most diversified.
This environment shelters many species of birds such as Bluethroat, White-capped Blackbirds, Middle Spotted Woodpeckers or Alpine Accentor.
With a bit of luck, you will also distinguish the silhouette of the Royal Eagle as well as tracks of wolves and bears, if not themselves. The forests of centenary oaks, holly trees and Sorbus are the place of life of European Wildcats, Pine Martens or Dormouses.
Moreover, all along the outing you should see many examples of alpine flora. Let’s just mention some: the Adonis Pyrenaica, the Cantabrian Artemisia or the Viola Palentina.
2- Wintering Birds (From November 1 to March 31). These observation outings are made within the Natural space La Nava, Boada and Tierra de Campos.
We head towards the lagoon of La Nava, better known as “Mar de Campos”, a wetland visited every year by thousands of Greylag Geese from Europe.
With them, also arrive the Ruddy Shelduck, Taiga Bean Geese, Barnacle Geese, and among their reeds, European Penduline Tit, Rallus, Bearded Reedlings and many more.
We have to also mention the queen of Tierra de Campos, the Great Bustard.
3- Orchids The Beautiful Unknowns (From May 10 to July 15). These nature observation outings are made within the natural parks of the Palentina Mountain, Las Tuerces or Covalagua and the Geoparque de las Loras.
Throughout the season, we can observe in these natural spaces up to a total of 65 different cataloged species of orchids so far.
Exploring these three natural spaces allows us to go through different ecosystems with a very diverse geology, a condition conducive to the emergence of numerous species of orchids.
Some of the orchids of Palencia: Ophrys Castellana, Orchis Olbiensis, Orchis Cazorlensis or Orchis Pallens.
4- Birds Of The Palentina Moutain (All year long). These nature observation outings are made within the natural parks of the Palentina Moutain, the Geoparque de las Loras or the La Nava, Boada and Tierra de Campos Natural Area.
We conceived this observation outing in order to find, throughout the year, up to 305 species of birds cataloged so far. Many of these species are present only in specific points of the province, but we know these places.
Within the great variety of ecosystems present in the north of the province of Palencia, we can discover and admire birds such as the Common Rock Thrush, the White-Winged Snowfinch, the Bluethroat, the Great Bustard, the Spanish Sparrow or the Royal Eagle.
